7 years down the line and Age of Love is more powerful than ever. What started as a dream of Nik Vandenberghe from Charlatan and DJ Quincy to reunite the clubbers from the ‘90’s has grown into one of the biggest success stories in Belgian nightlife.
From the cosy Charlatan Café, Age of Love soon had to move to a bigger venue and found this in the Vooruit where they struck up an alliance with the Nasty Mondays crew. Even there, the parties sold out on each new edition. They also got invited for a stage on ‘Feest in het Park’ and touched down in the Artcube in Ghent on the B-day editions where Age of Love managed to fill no less than three rooms with all those who wanted to relive the magical days of the Belgian clubs and their typical sounds. This crowd was joined by a lot of youngsters who also fell in love with the special atmosphere and discovered a completely new clubbing universe.
Last year Age of Love secured itself a stage at the mighty Tomorrowland, got nominated as ‘Best Really Big Party’ in the Red Bull Elektropedia Awards and released their very first double CD-compilation. How big can you get …
A lot bigger if you ask us because for the first edition of 2015 and the 7th B-day, Age of Love is landing in Artcube again with three rooms, each stacked with the biggest national and international artists around. They will all be bringing those sounds to which people used to dance all weekend long during the ‘90’s. As usual the music will be enhanced by a lot of extras as special acts, gadgets, amazing light and laser shows and crystal clear sound-systems.
The Big Love Arena is the room dedicated to more trance induced house sounds. It is headed by none less than Chicane from the UK. Chicane is the man of whom Armin Van Buuren said that he invented Trance and who are we to argue. He doesn’t only have a hit-filled album discography. The roll-call of names he has worked with is diverse and impressive: Bryan Adams, Sir Tom Jones, Natasha Bedingfield, Adam Young, Cher, Kate Walsh, Ferry Corsten, … Next up is the Dutch producer Lambda who made a huge club hit with “Hold on Tight”, a track which can also be found on the Age of Love compilation. And then a big star from our own backyard with M.I.K.E aka Push, responsible for numerous hits of which the biggest one is without a doubt “Universal Nation”. Mike also teamed up and did remixes for Sinéad O'Connor, Moby, Mauro Picotto, Bomfunk MC's, Oliver Lieb, Psy'Aviah, and Ian Van Dahl. Do we have star power in the house or what!
These big international guns will be joined by Belgium’s finest. Those dj’s responsible for the huge reputations of all those legendary clubs that still live in many people’s hearts and minds today. DJ George’s from La Bush fame, Yves Deruyter who handled the decks at Cherry Moon for such a long time, Sven van Hees from Café d’Anvers’ early days, Quincy from Extreme and Age of Love resident, Dave Lambert from Zillion and Neon from La Rocca who will be playing an exclusive vinyl only set from his Music Man past. Be prepared to be warped back in time by each one, all in their own unique way!
The Teknoville Area will take us back to the glory days of that famous, first dance program on Studio Brussels and will feature the best techno artists of that time, many of which are still more than relevant today. Big headliner in this room hails from Japan in the form of Ken Ishii. He made his name through several groundbreaking releases on Ghent based R&S Records since ’94 and he hasn’t stopped since. Hailed all over the world, he’s definitely one of techno’s biggest stars. Next on the line-up is an equally renowned artist but again, homegrown, with CJ Bolland. A colleague of Ken at R&S Records in the early ‘90’s, he switched to Internal afterwards. He is best known for his song "Sugar Is Sweeter" which hit #1 in the United States. Bolland is also a prolific remixer with a long résumé, including songs by Orbital, Depeche Mode, Moby, The Prodigy and Tori Amos. They will be joined by the one and only Dominators better known as T-Quest from Music Man Records fame and Studio Brussels head honcho Jan van Biesen. Add to those, Franky Jones from Montini and Enterprise Records, Zolex from Globe and Dark Kitchen Records and Michael Forzza from Perimeter Records and you know that the techno beats will be flying at just the right speed all night long.
And the party doesn’t stop there because we also have The Endless Love Room in store for you. A room where you will hear the deeper and more progressive trance sounds: the typical sounds of clubs as Extreme and La Rocca. International headliner here is Oliver Lieb also known as LSG. An artist with ten LPs under his belt, plus over a hundred EPs and singles on such legendary labels as Harthouse, Superstition, Platipus, Hooj Choons, Yoshitoshi, Bedrock… He has remixed everyone from stadium-filling acts like Faithless, The Human League, Moby and Yello, to the best up and coming producers in the underground scene. He will get the full underground support of leading jocks as Dave Swayze and CP as well the masters Phi Phi and Marko de la Rocca.
Let’s relive the Age of Love once again and party till the morning dawn. And there’s a special action going on: buy your tickets in presale with the Age of Love compilation at a special price and also relive the magic at home!
